Accessible renovation: adapting a home for reduced mobility
Level-access shower, 80 cm doors, barrier-free routes and the grants that fund part of the works: a practical adaptation guide.
By the Andalucía Reformas team ·

Where do you start?
The bathroom: it concentrates most domestic accidents, and a 2–5 day intervention transforms personal autonomy.
The bath-to-level-shower conversion with class-3 anti-slip flooring, folding seat and grab rails is the highest-impact job, followed by widening doors to 80 cm and removing internal steps.
What does a wheelchair require?
80 cm clear passages, 150 cm turning circles in bathroom and bedroom, controls at 80–120 cm and lateral approach space at bed and WC. Home automation adds a lot: motorised shutters, sensor lighting and remote door entry, integrated by our installations team.
What funding exists?
Regional lines for functional adaptation of homes for seniors and people with disabilities, plus community funding for lifts and ramps. We file the application — see grants.
